The altitude of Shangri-La Great Canyon is 2000 meters,you will feel comfortable when you visit the canyon,but if you prefer to visit Buddhist Stupa Mountain,you would travel to 4000 meters.You will visit the secret part of Shangri-La,the great canyon also belongs to the Unesco World Heritage Three Parallel Rivers.You will not only enjoy the natural alpine pasture,canyon,old-growth forest and grassland during this trip,but also will know why local tibetan immigrated here for Shangri-La.

Drive to Shangri-La Great Canyon for 1 to 1.5 hours

A nine hours day trip to this wonderful remote hidden canyon and village surrounded by the spectacular mountains covered with snow. The organisation through local people was almost perfect and the shuttle bus from one place to another ran smoothly. What impressed me the most is the Stupa Mountain at a sea level above 4000 meters. Absolutely stunning and peaceful with freezing temperature.
Frixme –
Awesome scenery,but you need to pay an additional 75 yuan to see the mountainous part of the park (West). By doing so, you probably will miss the canyon part (East), if you need to be back at the entrance at 5pm.
If you are into photography, better take 2 days to cover the area properly. Drones are allowed.
I will definitely plan a second visit, to indulge myself in this landscape that make me feel like I am in a book of Tolkien!

It is a rewarding trip as the scenery was spectacular and majestic. The one and a half hour walk along the stream on the wooden platform constructed a the base of the canyon was worth it. The rapids with greenery and moutains as backdrop are just spectacle and picturesque.
